Bird Tour-Forest birds of southeastern Amazonian Brazil-Orange-cheeked Parrot
Orange-cheeked Parrot
The Orange-cheeked Parrot is one of the most beautiful birds in the Amazon forests. In this video, the acrobatic parrot is feeding on the bark of a cashew tree, in order to get minerals needed to remove toxic substances from its food. Rainforest parrots and macaws often visit the banks of rivers (“clay licks”) for the same purpose. Eating cashew bark is a daily routine at the Jardim da Amazonia lodge in Brazil’s southeastern Amazon. These parrots show little fear of avid photographers during their activities and allow a close approach.
